Cable Griffith was at Cornish when I met him, I was a brand new baby artist starting at Gage and he was one of the artists we met for a studio visit. After that I followed him on Facebook and heard about his shows sporadically.
I eventually went to hear him speak at a show at G. Gibson Gallery when it was in Pioneer Square. When Cable did his artist’s talk (by the way that was the first artist talk I think I went to and I didn’t know they were a thing) he was very articulate and interesting to listen to. He spoke about how playing video games as young kid colored his view of the world and his art. He wanted his paintings to be two-dimensional and multi-dimensional; he was inspired by the look of a forest but wanted it to look like a virtual forest that would be part of the video game.
Of course his recent work is quite interesting and he’s going to show some of his latest pieces at the Bellwether 2018 Arts Festival. Opening night is Friday September 14th at the Bellevue Arts Museum.
