I studied with Gary Faigin for several years in his still-life atelier at the Gage Academy of Art, which he founded. I bought this oil sketch at one of Gary’s studio sales years ago. This was a plein air painting he did about 20 years ago, of a shipyard in Ballard at the end of 24th Ave., Northwest. It’s an iconic neighborhood in old Ballard with shipyards and warehouses, and now the new Nordic Museum. This image evokes memories for me about working on boats in Alaska.

Gary Faigin teaches still-life paintings, and often lectures in Seattle on art, painting, and has written the Artist’s Complete Guide to Facial Expressions, a go to book for illustrators and animators alike. You can visit his website and learn more abut his work here.
