There was once this artist from Spain that I friended on Facebook named Boris Correa. His art was really interesting and there was this one sketch of his that looked like a dream, there was a girl in a room floating up to the ceiling with a dog on the floor. I just thought it was such a lovely, dreamy image that I thought about it for maybe two years.
When you look at a powerful piece of visual art you make some kind of connection, and sometimes it just seems to you like a song that stuck in your head. You keep thinking about it, thinking of it, and suddenly “hey wait a minute maybe maybe it’s still for sale” I thought. So I sent them a Facebook message and asked if it was still for sale.
He said yes and he said this is how much the sketch is, this is how much the paintings are, this is how much a pain in the ass is.
Eventually I said OK, we negotiated the final price and the shipping and then I sent him money via this thing called Western Union. Yeah, I sent Western Union money. I had to have the exact spelling of his name, his phone number, his address, and then I had to go to a drugstore or Walmart to finally send the money. It was really weird, I’ve never sent money that way before and all for the image that was stuck in my head. A few weeks later he sent me the paintings and the drawing rolled up in a tube. It was the smallest little tube, like the size of the middle of a roll of paper towels. Honestly it was a great way to ship paintings so far and so now I have these lovely images on my walls, thank you.
